Muir of Ord Gala 2017

29 July 2017

The Muir of Ord Gala Group writes

"The usual very warm welcome is extended to everyone attending the 2017 Muir of Ord Gala.

"As usual, Gala week marks the culmination of months of planning by an extremely dedicated team of volunteers who form the Gala Committee.  It could not happen though were it not for the huge amount of community spirit in the village.  We are so thankful to the individuals, groups and businesses that continuously support us.  We are also extremely grateful to all the people who dedicate their time to help during gala week, whether it be running events, serving teas, baking cakes, cooking burgers, setting up equipment, playing songs or clearing up. Your help is very much appreciated."

SWT Bumblebee walk and talk Camore Wood near Dornoch

29 July 2017

Heather Bantick, Scottish Wildlife Trust North of Scotland Group Secretary, writes

Our final summer outing is a Bumblebee Talk and Walk with Katy Malone of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust on Saturday 29 July.   Katy gave us a very interesting talk last winter and this is an opportunity for you to learn how to identify bees then visit Camore Forest with Katy to try out your skills.  There are still a few spaces available so if you are interested please contact Evelyn Cromarty on 01463 798100 or   e.cromarty@btinternet.com

We start our winter programme in September with a “special”.  It seems terrible to be talking about winter when we are still waiting for summer to arrive but this is a date to put into your diaries now.  On Wednesday 20th September, Mark Stephen and Euan McIlwraith, presenters of BBC Radio Scotland’s popular “Out of Doors” show are coming indoors to Eden Court to entertain, amuse and inform us.  The tickets for this event are now available from Eden Court
https://www.eden-court.co.uk/whats-on/shows/out-of-doors-on-the-road

This is bound to be a sell-out so don’t delay in buying your tickets.

We are part of the rapidly expanding worldwide Transition Towns movement. The Black Isle is a peninsula of about 100 sq miles ENE of Inverness in Scotland, UK.
